Remove Accents

Convert accented letters to their plain equivalents.

Converts accented letters to their unaccented equivalents by decomposing each character and dropping the combining marks, so é becomes e. Letters that carry no separable mark — ß, ø, æ — cannot be handled that way and are expanded by an explicit mapping instead.
